How SteamSage works

SteamSage runs quietly in your browser. Here's what happens when you visit a Steam game page.

  1. 1

You visit a Steam game page

SteamSage only activates on URLs matching store.steampowered.com/app/*. On any other page — nothing happens, no data is collected.

  2. 2

The extension reads the AppID from the URL

Every Steam game has a numeric ID in its URL (e.g. Elden Ring is 1245620). That's the only piece of information SteamSage extracts from the page.

  3. 3

Our backend looks up prices across 15+ stores

We keep a price index refreshed every ~2 hours from Steam, Eneba, Kinguin, Instant Gaming, GOG, Humble Bundle, Green Man Gaming, Fanatical, Gamivo and more.

  4. 4

An overlay appears in the corner

A small card in the bottom-right shows the best price found, the store selling it, and the all-time low. Dismiss it anytime with the × button.

  5. 5

    Click through to buy

If you like the deal, click See offer and you're taken to the store's product page. Affiliate commissions on some purchases keep SteamSage free — at no cost to you.
